SOUNDS LIKE FUN!
It’s time for the 26th Annual PotashCorp Children’s Festival of Saskatchewan!
After our fabulous 25-year celebration last year, we can’t wait for you to hear what’s in store for kids of all ages this June 1 – 4, 2014. “Sounds Like Fun”, doesn’t it?
This year our theme celebrates sound and creativity. Sound can be manipulated like Play-Doh. We can roll it thin and make it curl, or splat it flat as a pancake. Sound can wrap us up warm and cozy, like a lullaby sung to a sleepy child, or it can make us shiver, like November wind rattling a screen door. The right sound can express more colour and depth than whole paragraphs of language. Somehow, human beings know this intrinsically, and children play with sound as easily and intuitively as they play with any toy.
This year, we invite you to listen actively, to sing along, to explore sound in many dimensions, from water droplets to dinosaur roars.
Exploring sound can mean more than making a big noise. The great trumpet player Miles Davis said, “I don’t play what’s there. I play what’s not there.” Sometimes, a little window of quiet can be a powerful force.
How we use sound creatively, and how we share it with others, is what this year is all about. Think about it like a great big game of tin-can telephone: listen closely, and when it’s your turn, whisper something true:
“Creativity is contagious. Pass it on.”
– Albert Einstein
